If you develop for the web, it’s likely that you use git to manage your code. Once your code is ready to deploy, updating your EDD download usually entails downloading a zip, renaming the main folder, removing un-needed files, and then re-zipping and uploading. This process can be lengthy, especially if you manage numerous websites or have a large number of downloads.
This process is automated with the Git Download Updater plugin for code hosted on GitHub and BitBucket. Rather than manually upgrading your download for release, you simply specify the repository and version tag and the plugin takes care of the rest. It automatically refreshes the download file and assigns the correct file names.
